The launch monster count
The closed beta roster and pre-release media point to 20 returning large monsters plus the original Elder Dragon Ruger Aidal. Once subspecies and Radiant forms are counted, the total known roster reaches 39 variants and species.
That number is not the same as 39 unique base monsters. It includes the transformed Radiant forms that reuse a base skeleton with new attacks and gear. Our monster database separates the base hunts from the variants so you can plan a material route.

Weapon roster
The launch roster includes Great Sword, Long Sword, Dual Blades, Hammer, Lance, Heavy Bowgun and Bow. The Charge Blade was also confirmed by the producer for the launch era, bringing the total to eight weapon types. The Fated Adventurer can use all of them; named Adventurers are tied to specific weapons.
The weapon type count does not guarantee every monster has a full tree for every weapon. Expect the usual Monster Hunter material spread, with some weapons having wider upgrade paths than others. Check each weapon guide for launch picks.

New Elder Dragon
Ruger Aidal is the first original Elder Dragon made for Outlanders. It hardens Radiantite into golden armor and uses the mineral for ranged attacks. The fight is designed as the flagship endgame challenge and gives the roster its own identity beyond the returning World-era monsters.
