Ruger Aidal is weak to Dragon and Thunder. Break the head first and bring a Lance if you want the cleanest first clear. The flagship Elder Dragon of Aesoland.
Field notes
Ruger Aidal overview
Ruger Aidal is the first Elder Dragon created specifically for Monster Hunter Outlanders. Its body hardens Radiantite into golden armor, using the mineral for both defense and offense. That design drives the hunt: target the armor, force it to shed or break, then punish the exposed body.
The launch-day data is still settling, but the safest approach is a mobile weapon with reliable Dragon or Thunder damage. A shield helps against the golden projectiles, while Bow and Heavy Bowgun can keep the plating in view. Break the wing plates before committing to the head.

The recommended break order is: 1. Head, 2. Golden wing plates, 3. Forelegs, 4. Tail. This is the safest sequence for a typical first hunt. If your armor or weapon recipe needs a specific part, target that break and leave the rest for a later run.

Hunt plan
How to beat Ruger Aidal
Treat the golden plates as the first health bar
Ruger Aidal's defensive plating absorbs a large part of your damage and powers its best attacks. Focus a single plate rather than spreading damage. A broken plate reduces both its defense and the strength of the follow-up projectile patterns.
Stay out of the golden line
The flagship launches Radiantite projectiles in straight lines and arcs. Watch the shoulders and wings for the charge tell. Move perpendicular, then close in after the volley. Standing at maximum range makes the projectiles harder to read.
Use a shield to control the tempo
Lance is the comfortable first-clear pick because it can hold through a projectile and counter into a foreleg or head. Heavy Bowgun and Bow offer safer plating damage but need clean stamina management. Great Sword can punish the long recovery after a plate break.
Save the head for the topple
The head is exposed after a plate break or a successful foreleg topple. Do not try to force head damage while the wings are glowing. A single committed burst on the correct opening is worth more than constant chip damage on armor.

Radiant form & variant notes
No separate Radiant form has been clearly confirmed for Ruger Aidal. Aesoland's ecosystem is still changing, so this page will be updated if one appears in a future update. For the confirmed transformations, see the Radiant species guide.
Preparation
Ruger Aidal checklist
- Break one golden plate at a time; spreading damage wastes the window.
- Dragon is the most likely useful element; bring Thunder as a backup.
- A shield makes the projectile patterns much easier to learn.
- Expect the launch-day meta to shift — check the update log for hotfixes.
First-clear rule
Pick one break, one element and one safe punish. Do not try to optimize the entire hunt before you have survived it once.
