Odogaron is weak to Ice and Thunder. Break the head first and bring a Dual Blades if you want the cleanest first clear. Match the tempo or get bled dry.
Field notes
Odogaron overview
Odogaron fights at a pace that makes cautious players panic and greedy players pay. Its combinations are short but link into each other, and the gap between the head and hips is not a safe place to stand. The rule is simple: hit from the side, leave before the follow-up, repeat.
Ice is the strongest element, but the larger benefit is a weapon that lets you move between punish windows. Dual Blades and Long Sword can match the rhythm; Hammer wants to wait for a leap recovery and go for the head. The tail is a valuable sever but should not be forced during the fast combos.

What to break
Breakable parts & materials
The recommended break order is: 1. Head, 2. Forelegs, 3. Tail. This is the safest sequence for a typical first hunt. If your armor or weapon recipe needs a specific part, target that break and leave the rest for a later run.

Hunt plan
How to beat Odogaron
Stand at the hip, not the head
The head is where the bite chain starts. Hug the rear leg or hip and attack from the side. When the monster turns, move with it rather than trying to stay planted. This keeps you out of the two-hit bite and sets up a tail approach.
Punish the long leap
The leaping lunge is the most readable move. It commits to a direction and ends in a short recovery. Dodge early, then follow the body to the head or tail. Do not chase while the previous combo is still finishing.
Treat the claws as a warning
Odogaron's foreleg swipes come quickly and often set up another attack. Blocking the first hit is not enough for a shield user; keep the guard up through the follow-up. Ranged hunters should stay at a diagonal to avoid the second lunge.
Cut the tail on a topple
The tail is a clean target after a head or foreleg topple. Farming a tail during normal movement is possible but not worth the risk. If the tail material is not needed, use the topple to hit the head instead.
Radiantite watch
Radiant form & variant notes
Radiant Odogaron is a confirmed transformed hunt. Radiant Odogaron is listed among the transformed hunts in the beta files. Its speed is already the main threat; the Radiant state adds a brighter, more punishing chase pattern. Keep attacking the hip, break the forelegs and save the tail cut for a confirmed topple.
Radiant rule
Carry the base weakness but plan for the new hazard. A safe clear with slightly lower damage is better than a perfect elemental build that spends half the fight healing. Read the Radiant species guide.
Preparation
Odogaron checklist
- Ice is the preferred element; Thunder is the backup.
- Attack the hip and flank instead of the head.
- Do not start a long combo while it is still chaining attacks.
- The tail is safest after a topple.
First-clear rule
Pick one break, one element and one safe punish. Do not try to optimize the entire hunt before you have survived it once.
