Barroth is weak to Water and Ice. Break the head crown first and bring a Hammer if you want the cleanest first clear. Wash the armor off before you hit bone.
Field notes
Barroth overview
Barroth's fight is a positioning test with a resource-management twist. In its mud-covered state, the plating absorbs a large share of your damage and many attacks bounce from the crown. Water attacks wash the coating away and leave the actual hide exposed, which is why a Water weapon is worth more than a raw weapon with a bigger number.
The crown is the trophy break. Hammer and other blunt weapons can punish it during the recovery after a charge, while faster weapons should work the forearms. Barroth's charge is long but commits hard; a sidestep near the end of the run is usually enough to avoid it.

Element check
Barroth weakness & best weapons
Elemental damage is only part of the answer. Choose a weapon that can safely reach the part you need to break. The recommendations below are a starting point for a first clear, not a hard rule.
| Weakness | Recommended weapon | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Water / Ice | Hammer | Head first, questions later It gives you a clean route to the main break. |
| Secondary option | Lance | Hold the line, answer the charge Use it if you are already comfortable with the moveset. |
| Matchup plan | Bow | A flexible alternative for players who prefer range, shields or a faster rhythm. |
What to break
Breakable parts & materials
The recommended break order is: 1. Head crown, 2. Forearms, 3. Tail. This is the safest sequence for a typical first hunt. If your armor or weapon recipe needs a specific part, target that break and leave the rest for a later run.

Hunt plan
How to beat Barroth
Strip the mud first
Landing a few Water hits removes the muddy shell from the part you hit. A concentrated Water Bow or Dual Blades sequence can open the head quickly. If you are using a non-Water weapon, focus the forearms rather than bouncing off the crown.
Punish the charge recovery
Barroth lowers its head and tracks a straight line before charging. The turn is slow, and the monster often slides to a stop. Move to the side, then attack the leg or tail while it resets. Do not chase the head from directly behind — that is where the tail swipe lands.
Break the crown for the best stagger
The head crown is a blunt-friendly break. Hammer players can target it after a charge, while Lance users can use the shield to absorb the run and counter into the face. Break the forearms too if the armor tree requires them.
Use the mud to plan the tail cut
The tail is a modest target and sits close to the body. Wait until Barroth is exhausted or stuck in a charge recovery before trying to sever it. If the tail is not needed for your current gear, spend the time on another leg break instead.
Radiantite watch
Radiant form & variant notes
Radiant Barroth is a confirmed transformed hunt. Radiant Barroth appears in the closed beta roster. Its Radiantite-crusted plates survive longer than ordinary mud, so bring Water and target one side consistently instead of spreading damage. Expect the charge to leave a damaging trail.
Radiant rule
Carry the base weakness but plan for the new hazard. A safe clear with slightly lower damage is better than a perfect elemental build that spends half the fight healing. Read the Radiant species guide.
Preparation
Barroth checklist
- Water is both the weakness and the tool that removes the mud coating.
- Hammer can safely farm the head crown after a charge.
- Avoid the hip check by rolling through the body, not with the tail.
- Do not spend the whole hunt bouncing from armor plates.
First-clear rule
Pick one break, one element and one safe punish. Do not try to optimize the entire hunt before you have survived it once.
