Black Diablos Weakness & Hunt Guide

A faster, more aggressive Diablos with punishing burrow attacks. Ice weapons, a shield or range, and patient punish windows win the fight.

Quick answer

Black Diablos is weak to Ice and Dragon. Break the left horn first and bring a Lance if you want the cleanest first clear. Shield up when the sand moves.

Field notes

Black Diablos overview

Black Diablos takes everything that makes Diablos dangerous and turns the tempo up. The charges come sooner, the underground approach is harder to read, and the recovery windows are shorter. This is a fight where greed is punished more than at almost any other early endgame hunt.

The horns are the headline break, but the safest damage is usually on the legs and belly after a charge. Ice is the preferred element. A shield weapon can turn the charge into an opening; a ranged weapon can stay outside the sand eruption and pick the head during recovery.

What to break

Breakable parts & materials

The recommended break order is: 1. Left horn, 2. Right horn, 3. Back, 4. Tail. This is the safest sequence for a typical first hunt. If your armor or weapon recipe needs a specific part, target that break and leave the rest for a later run.

Hunt plan

How to beat Black Diablos

Watch the feet, not the head

The burrow begins with a small sand plume around the feet. Track that signal instead of the horns. When the sand starts to swirl, move early and keep moving; the final lunge tracks a surprising amount.

Counter the charge with a shield

Lance can guard the first pass and counter into the head or leg. Do not attempt a long counter combo unless the charge has fully stopped. Black Diablos often chains a second pass before settling.

Break both horns for materials

Horn breaks require focused head damage and are easiest when the monster is toppled after a wall or leg break. If your weapon cannot reach the head safely, farm the tail and legs first and leave the horns for a dedicated part-break run.

Bring a ranged backup plan

Bow and Heavy Bowgun have a much easier time reading the sand trail. Keep a wide angle, avoid standing behind the tail, and punish only after the burrow ends. Ice Coating and Ice ammo want the horns and wings.

Radiantite watch

Radiant form & variant notes

Radiant Black Diablos is a confirmed transformed hunt. Radiant Black Diablos is listed in the closed-beta roster. The transformed version keeps the tunneling pressure and adds a brighter, more aggressive charge pattern. Ice remains the base weakness; treat the Radiant part break as the safest way to interrupt its enraged sequence.

Radiant rule

Carry the base weakness but plan for the new hazard. A safe clear with slightly lower damage is better than a perfect elemental build that spends half the fight healing. Read the Radiant species guide.

Preparation

Black Diablos checklist

  • Ice is the most useful element; Dragon is the second option.
  • The sand plume at the feet tells you which way the burrow starts.
  • Do not chase a charge until the monster has fully stopped.
  • Target horns after a topple, not during the charge.

First-clear rule

Pick one break, one element and one safe punish. Do not try to optimize the entire hunt before you have survived it once.

Quick answers

Black Diablos FAQ

What element is Black Diablos weak to?
Ice is the best general answer, followed by Dragon. Water can work in some matchups, but Ice is the safer recommendation for a first clear.
How do you avoid Black Diablos burrow attacks?
Watch the feet for the sand plume and move perpendicular to the emerging line. Keep one dodge of stamina and avoid committing to a long animation while the sand is moving.
Can you break both Black Diablos horns?
Yes. Focus the head after a topple or a fully finished charge. Both horns are separate break rewards and are used by several weapon and armor trees.
