Kushala Daora is weak to Thunder and Dragon. Break the head first and bring a Bow if you want the cleanest first clear. Respect the wind, then punish the landing.
Field notes
Kushala Daora overview
Kushala Daora is an Elder Dragon built around denial. Wind pressure shoves you out of position, airborne passes make the head hard to reach, and its steel hide punishes random taps. The hunt gets much easier when you stop chasing and start waiting for the landing.
Thunder is the preferred element. Ranged weapons have the cleanest access to the wings and head, while Long Sword can use its reach to punish the legs during a grounded pass. Break the wings to reduce the aerial pressure, then focus the head for the main stagger.

Hunt plan
How to beat Kushala Daora
Let it land
Do not spend the whole aerial phase trying to snipe. Reposition to the center, watch the shadow and punish the landing. A grounded Elder Dragon is worth more than a dozen speculative hits.
Break a wing early
Wing breaks shorten the aerial phase and create some of the safest damage windows in the hunt. Bow and Heavy Bowgun should prioritize them. If you are melee, wait for a grounded head tilt and commit only after the wind burst ends.
Play around wind pressure
The wind burst is a positioning tool for the AI. Stand outside the first ring and move in after it expands. A shield can hold through some gusts, but the knockback still costs stamina and tempo.
Use the tail as a safe secondary
The tail is a long, reachable target during ground combos and can be severed. It is not the fastest clear, but it is a reliable way to keep damage going while the head is above your reach.

Preparation
Kushala Daora checklist
- Thunder is the best all-round element, with Dragon as a backup.
- Prioritize wing breaks to shorten aerial phases.
- Track the shadow during flight and punish the landing.
- Do not burn all your stamina chasing a flying Elder Dragon.
First-clear rule
Pick one break, one element and one safe punish. Do not try to optimize the entire hunt before you have survived it once.
