Great Girros is weak to Fire. Break the head first and bring a Hammer if you want the cleanest first clear. Break the head before the pack closes in.
Field notes
Great Girros overview
Great Girros is less about a single monster and more about controlling a room. Its pack of Girros circles, bites and creates paralysis openings. If you ignore the smaller monsters, a clean hunt turns into a chain of stuns, paralysis and wasted healing.
Fire is the clean elemental answer. Wide swings and explosive attacks that hit multiple bodies are better than a single-target weapon here. Break the head when you can; the resulting stagger gives you time to clear the remaining pack before they surround you again.

Breakable parts & materials
The recommended break order is: 1. Head, 2. Forelegs, 3. Tail. This is the safest sequence for a typical first hunt. If your armor or weapon recipe needs a specific part, target that break and leave the rest for a later run.

How to beat Great Girros
Clear the pack first
The small Girros are not decoration. Pull them together, kill them with one wide combo or a Fire finisher, and start the Great Girros fight with a safe floor. They can respawn during longer hunts, so keep an eye on the cave entrances.
Read the paralysis bite
The paralysis setup has a visible crouch and a short lunge. If you are hit, it can chain into another pack attack. Keep Paralysis Resistance or a cleansing item available if your build is fragile.
Use the head as the first break
Breaking the head opens the best material pool and interrupts the monster's rallying behavior. Hammer, Great Sword and Charge Blade can all reach it during the post-bite recovery. The tail is a secondary target.
Do not get cornered in the tunnels
The cave geometry limits your dodge lanes. Fight in the open chamber when possible, and move the hunt away from walls before starting a long combo. If the pack surrounds you, use an area attack and reposition toward the center.
Radiantite watch
Radiant form & variant notes
Radiant Great Girros is a confirmed transformed hunt. Radiant Great Girros appears in the beta roster. The pack fight becomes a wider hazard once Radiantite enters the equation, so clear the small Girros first and keep the leader in open ground. Break the head to remove the strongest paralysis threat.
Radiant rule
Carry the base weakness but plan for the new hazard. A safe clear with slightly lower damage is better than a perfect elemental build that spends half the fight healing. Read the Radiant species guide.
Preparation
Great Girros checklist
- Fire weapons and multi-target attacks are ideal.
- Clear small Girros before focusing the leader.
- Paralysis Resistance is a comfort skill that can save a run.
- Keep the fight in the open, not against a tunnel wall.
First-clear rule
Pick one break, one element and one safe punish. Do not try to optimize the entire hunt before you have survived it once.
